Neurology Training in the West of Scotland

The West of Scotland Training Programme in Neurology based at the Institute of Neurological Sciences, Glasgow, offers comprehensive training and experience in all facets of neurology, including acute neurology and all long term neurological conditions.

As trainee neurologists, we all thoroughly enjoy living and working in the West of Scotland and would welcome anyone aspiring to a career in neurology. We care for individuals from a vast geographical distribution and manage a wide range of neurological disorders covering such a large population. We have a busy inpatient neurology unit at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where we work alongside a fantastic multidisciplinary team, caring for neurology inpatients. Our broad range of consultant colleagues with various specialist interests enables us to train and acquire the knowledge and clinical skills required to progress and succeed in neurology. The consultant team are all approachable and keen to support the trainee group as we advance through our training.

We are part of a big department with many trainees, enabling a flexible training path for all, with extensive opportunities to gain specialist outpatient clinic experience. The neurology service provides regular neurology input across several nearby district general hospitals too, where trainees can gain great experience in managing common presentations in general neurology.

The West of Scotland is also a great place to live and explore outside of training There are a huge range of social venues and eateries readily accessible in and around the city of Glasgow. A short venture out of the city are the Campsie Fells, the West coastline and all the neighbouring islands, not forgetting the popular bonnie banks of Loch Lomond!

We are an enthusiastic group of trainees and would encourage and welcome likeminded people pursuing a career in neurology.
