What is Teleneurology?
Teleneurology is the use of technology to allow patients from distant areas access to specialist neurological assessment and advice. Telemedicine helps reduce travel and disruption to day to day life of patients in distant areas accessing specialist care.
What does the service offer?
We offer telemedicine clinics for individuals from NHS Western Isles with seizures, epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease. Patients attend their local hospital at Stornoway or Benbecula, where they use the video-link facility with the Neurology Service at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. Patients are reviewed by a consultant neurologist using the video-link. The service was established in 2009
Attend Anywhere clinics
The Attend Anywhere platform enables the review of patients using smart devices of patients and carers, which link to NHS clinicians in hospital. This allows patients easier access for clinical review in some circumstances, personal or geographical. Currently, Attend Anywhere clinics may be offered in the following areas depending upon clinical circumstances, geographical area and service agreements.
