Neuro-Ophthalmology

What is Neuro-Ophthalmology?

Neuro-ophthalmology is the specialist branch of medicine concerned with visual and eye movement problems related to the nervous system.  Disorders may affect the muscles and nerves which move the eyes, the optic nerve (the nerve behind the eye that takes visual information to the brain) and the visual pathway through the brain.

What does our service offer?

We assess, diagnose and manage disorders of vision and eye movements through weekly clinics, some of which are neurologist-led and others that are ophthalmologist-led.  In order to establish a diagnosis and plan of management some patients will need further investigations beyond the first clinic appointment. This will be discussed at your appointment. Investigations may include scans as well as in-patient assessment.
