Multiple Sclerosis

 What is Multiple Sclerosis?

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a condition affecting the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system). It is relatively common in young adults. A diagnosis of MS is made by a neurologist on the basis of clinical assessment, brain scans and other tests.

What does our service offer?

A review by a consultant neurologist which may confirm or refute the diagnosis of MS. Once a diagnosis of MS is made, integrated management by the MS team includes MS specific treatment for suitable patients, chronic symptom management, coordinating care in the community and support and guidance to patients and their families. Long term care is typically offered by our MS nurse specialist team in conjunction with consultant neurologists and other healthcare professionals.
